Pinhais & Cia

The Portuguese cannery Pinhais & Cia was founded in 1920 and is one of the few traditional canneries left in Europe. The factory is located in Matosinhos in northern Portugal. Here, small-scale production is conducted in a craft-like manner. During the sardine season, the fresh catch is delivered directly from the local fishing boats and the other ingredients come from local producers nearby. The women who work in the factory prepare the tasty tomato sauce in a large cauldron and the olive oil used is of course Portuguese. Pinhai's sardines are real food crafts!
